Now Seeking:
Wilder Center Head Honcho
We need a new leader of that old yellow former-church at the turn in Wilder, Vermont.
As we (hopefully) near the light at the end of the Covid tunnel we are looking for a new Wilder Center Head Honcho to help us re-imagine and re-open the Wilder Center as a multi-purpose music, arts, and event space. This is an evolving position description, and will likely be re-written and finalized by the right person for the job.
We have had Managers in the past, and the right person for Wilder Center is someone who wants to take-on the full responsibilities of launching an eclectic event center in the Upper Valley. There are ideas and economic realities of the role, but the right person will set their own path to get there.
In 2009-2010 Lyme saved this historic and iconic building in Wilder, Vt. and restored and adapted it to serve as an event center. We’ve had weddings, movies, comedy nights, live music, corporate events, educational series, and memorial services. The building has been dormant during Covid, and we are re-energized to re-open the building as the Cultural Center it was intended to be…as soon as it is safe to convene again. The hope is that it will become a place for live music, movies, speaker series, and similar events that add to the culture and conversation in the Upper Valley.
qualifications, requirements, & goals
Turn a fully restored former church into a cultural center for Wilder, Vermont and the broader Upper Valley community.
Collaborate on developing a new business model that best aligns with the realities of the building, your core competencies, and the CDC-level cautious navigation of that pesky international health pandemic.
Own the operations, budget, and programming of public and private events to meet agreed-upon financial and programmatic milestones.
Have full P&L responsibility for the Wilder Center, responsible for managing all contracts and subcontractors necessary for event production and building maintenance.
A passion for, and connections to, the Upper Valley Arts & Entertainment scene.
Experience running live events and the multitude of responsibilities that come with that.
Enough web familiarity to run the Wilder Center website (re-launching soon) and social media channels. We will arm you with those digital tools, and work with you on marketing budget and tactics to make an up-front splash and maintain momentum in support of the events calendar.
There is no avoiding that this role involves nights and weekends by nature, which does not work for some people. There are ways to mitigate some of the impact by hiring part-time help, but that comes out of the budget and is inherently less successful than having the manager on-site. When it comes to weddings etc., there is always expectation by the customer of hands-on presence.
Hustle, willingness to experiment, “can-do” attitude.
A passion for the mission to build community, celebrate the arts, and foster creativity in the Upper Valley…and the organizational wherewithal and skill-set to make the math work.
